A PRIEST has accused thieves who stole money from a collection box of desecrating the church where it was located.
Holy Cross church in Lisnaskea was targeted by thieves who stole money from a collection box that had been built into the wall. The perpetrators smashed a lock to gain access and removed the contents. It is believed that the incident occurred some time between March 31st and April 6th.
Canon Mullin, of Holy Cross Chapel in Lisnaskea has expressed his disappointment at the act.
“Someone came in, during the early evening time and broke into the St Anthony’s collection box – it was a wall safe and they busted the lock to get at it. This kind of activity is a form of desecration of the church.”
“Someone coming in here in that mind and with that attitude to do such a thing is very upsetting. Church is a special place, and it belongs to the whole community, so to violate it in any form is a personal insult to us all,” concluded Cannon Mullin.
A PSNI spokesperson has appealed for anyone with information on the incident to contact “101 quoting ref 260 of 06/04/2017. Information can also be passed anonymously on 0800 555 111.
