Sportsmen and women from all over the county celebrated at the 2017 Fermanagh Herald Sports Personality Awards on Friday 9th February. It was a coming of age for the awards, celebrating its 21st year and once again there was no shortage of local talent to be saluted. Former Northern Ireland goalkeeper Roy Carroll, who was guest of honour at the awards with his wife Kerry, was honoured with the Hall of Fame award for his achievements on the football field. Roy is one of a select few to win a Premier league title in England, Greece and Northern Ireland.

The top award on the night was the Sports Personality of the Year. That went the way of world bronze medal winning rower Holly Nixon. Team GB commitments meant the Enniskillen woman was unable to attend on the night but sent her best wishes by videolink. Her family, Father Keith, Mother Lily and Brother James Nixon were present to collect on her behalf.

Sports Personality of the Year winner Holly Nixon chats to the sports awards attendees via videolink from her Team GB training camp in London.

Almost 300 people attended the event at the Killyhevlin Hotel which was sponsored by Belleek Living.

  • Overall Sports Personality of the Year: Holly Nixon (rowing)
  • Young Personality of the Year: Mark Kells (boxing)
