26-year-old accused of burglary and vehicle thefts

A 26-year-old man has been have been committed for trial on eight charges in relation to a burglary and vehicle thefts earlier this year.
Appearing for a preliminary enquiry before Enniskillen Magistrates Court on Monday was Brendan McLaughlin from Tempo Road in Enniskillen. He is charged with burglary at a house in Trillick when he stole two sets of car keys, a Ford Mondeo and Transit mini bus; dangerous driving and driving while disqualified at Glen Road, Trillick; aggravated vehicle taking causing injury to a female and failing to stop for police. All matters relate to an alleged incidents between March 2nd and 4th this year.
McLaughlin stood as the clerk of the court asked him if he had received the documents in relation to the holding of a Preliminary Enquiry.
“Yes,” he replied.
A prosecutor submitted that on the basis of those documents there was a prima facie case to answer.
Defence barrister Mr Blackburn, for McLaughlin, said that the charges were not formally conceded as the evidence was “very circumstantial” but added that he was making no contrary submission.
District Judge Nigel Broderick said he had read the documents and was satisfied there was a prima facie case to answer.
McLaughlin was asked if he wished to say anything in answer to the charges.
“Not at this stage,” he replied.
Asked if he wished to give evidence, call witnesses or tender any witness statements, McLaughlin again replied: “Not at this stage.”
Judge Broderick remanded McLaughlin on £500 bail and ordered him to appear for arraignment at Dungannon Crown Court sitting on December 21st.
