The local woman at the heart of Trump family

The shock election of Donald Trump has left our politicians struggling to find a ‘position’

A BELTURBET woman has had a closer insight than most into the day-of-day life of President-elect Trump and his family.
Dorothy Curry, who is in her late 60s, has worked for the billionaire and his former wife Ivana for more than 30 years, raising their children Donald Jr (38), Eric (32) and 34-year-old Ivanka.
The Trump children have enjoyed several visits to Ireland as teenagers and still speak affectionately about Dorothy.
During one visit here two years ago, Donald Trump Jr said: “There’s not a direct lineage tie but in our hearts there certainly is. The woman who raised us was Irish. Dorothy Curry from Co Cavan. We spent a lot of time here growing up and she’s an amazing woman. We heard so much about Ireland from a young age. Dorothy is over here very often and we have been to her home place. She still lives with our family in the US and has been a very big part of our lives. [Ireland] always felt a little bit close to home.”
Eric told how she still works for their mother, adding: “When she stopped raising us and we were out of the house, she continued on and has worked in our family for over 30 years. We heard more about Ireland than any other country growing up.”
Eldest daughter, Ivanka, wrote in her book, The Trump Card, in 2010: “In fact, outside my parents, I’d have to say my biggest childhood influences were Bridget and Dorothy, the two wonderful Irish nannies who looked after us.”
Dorothy’s sister Regina McConnell and brother Bartley Curry still live in the rural town land of Creeney but have remained tight-lipped about her close ties to the Trump family.
