Paddlers take to Lough Erne for Blueway 10k Challenge

18

This Saturday, 100 new Fermanagh paddlers will be taking to Lough Erne for Blueway 10k Challenge.

The challenge kicks off at 12 o’clock with paddlers taking part after successfully completing the 12 week Learn to Paddle programme which is run by Canoeing Ireland and Canoe Association of Northern Ireland in conjunction with Waterways Ireland.

The Blueway 10K Learn to Paddle Programme is a no nonsense workout that allows people to turn up in regular workout clothes, put on a buoyancy aid, grab a boat and paddle, and go for short intensive work out.

The challenge caters for all abilities as there is a Recreational Paddle for those who are beginners, while a time trial paddle is available for the more confident canoers.

Those who are not participating in the challenge will have the chance to take part in taster sessions between 12pm and 2pm. The taster events will give spectators the chance to try out canoeing in an attempt to encourage new paddlers to take to the water.

Blueway 10k has been developed by Canoeing Ireland in partnership with Waterways Ireland, the Coca Cola Thank You Fund and the Canoe Association of Northern Ireland.

Places are still available at www.bluewaysireland.org/events for experienced paddlers to sign-up to participate in the 10K Challenge.

Members of the canoe association participate for free, for all others a small fee applies to cover insurance. Families and friends that come along can join in the fun with paddling taster sessions at all the finish locations.
