Two minutes to make up your mind…

ballot-box-vote-660

For all the floating voters in Fermanagh each of the candidates spell out in two minutes why they should get your vote.

Michelle Gildernew – Sinn Fein
“I believe people should vote for me in Fermanagh South Tyrone on May because I have worked extremely hard for the past two decades to represent the people of this constituency. I’ve covered a lot of ground; I’ve worked on a lot of issues and I’ve helped a lot of people.
“I’ve been very proactive on issues like securing health, the hospital, trying fight on Fracking, trying to ensure that we have a decent infrastructure that we have jobs for our young people and that we receive 100% broadband coverage.
“No other candidate is able to stand on that track record and I believe that the people of Fermanagh South Tyrone want to see an energetic, hard-working MP that is able to work for and is respected by the entire community.”

Tom Elliott – Ulster Unionist Party
“It’s very important for the people of Fermanagh and South Tyrone to have representation at Westminster. I think it’s one of the most critical issues: Why would you stand for election to an elected parliament if you weren’t going to take your seat and represent the people there? That is one of the most fundamental aspects of politics: That you’re there to debate your case and get the best for the people of the constituency and the area.
“I think it’s important that we may have a level of influence that maybe we didn’t have for many years from Northern Ireland. Political representatives from Northern Ireland may have a significance in the greater powers of corridors at Westminster. I would be intending to use that influence to the best of my ability.”

John Coyle – SDLP
“I’m a young person, an energetic candidate who’s ready to represent everybody in the constituency and give them a strong voice in Westminster. On the doors I have heard about people being disengaged and disillusioned with the political process.
“I want to move away from stale sectarian politics and engage in real politics that will affect people on the ground. I want investment in infrastructure, and support for farmers and our tourism industry in Fermanagh and South Tyrone. I have policies that I believe will make a big difference in this constituency.
“Other candidates do not have policies: All they are relying on is sectarian and divisive politics to get them elected, which does not represent everyone in this constituency and does not move us on forward.”

Tanya Jones – Green Party
“People should vote for me because they want a better future. A cleaner, a greener and a fairer future for their children and the generations that come afterwards. People here aren’t sectarian, they aren’t divisive in their ordinary lives and they mix together as well, if not better than anyone in Northern Ireland.
“The only problem that we have is that a combination of demographics and statistics has left us with this ridiculous marginal seat in which people’s votes are horse-traded and taken for granted. If we don’t change that then the cycle is going to continue every five years on into the future.
“I want people to vote for me to send out the message that they want politics for the common good that’s going to benefit them and benefit their children.”

Hannah Su – Alliance
“I think that people should vote for me, Hannah Su, because the Alliance Party is a truly diverse party with all its members and elected representatives united in their common goal to build a shared for Northern Ireland. We are different from others in that we’re looking to tackle the causes of division, and not manage them – rather than all the negativity that’s been associated with all the issues.
“And finally, I believe that people should vote for me and vote for the Alliance Party because we offer a progressive voice for Northern Ireland and we want people to step forward with us for the future, and for a better future.”
