Fermanagh Feis AGM

Fermanagh Feis

NEXT year’s Fermanagh Feis syllabus will be available after Christmas.

At this year’s annual general meeting, the committee faced the ongoing dilemma of getting personnel to run the popular classical music sections, for both primary and post-primary schools.

At that stage, the posts of secretary and assistant secretary in each of these sections remained vacant.

The situation was made acute by the resignations of two, highly thought of section secretaries Patricia Thirgood,  the Feis Art Secretary, and Joanna McVey, the Feis Classical Music Secretary.

Tributes were paid to their sterling work. During their years of service, they organised their sections to a high standard and were conscientious in offering assistance to other sections.

A new Committee was elected and preparations are now underway for Feis 2015, with events taking place in March and April.

Fermanagh Feis has been running since 1962 and in that time, through the work of the Section Secretaries, it has catered over 100,000 children by way of encouragement, guidance and a performance platform.

It has also offered many competitors a stepping stone to success at local, national and international levels.

Among these are –  Adrian Dunbar (stage and screen), John Kelly (RTE light music presenter), the Maguire family (traditional music), Andrew Irvine (Ulster Orchestra) and Maria Heuston (Riverdance).

A spokesman for the Feis Committee paid tribute to the Feis volunteers.

“Without them, the Feis would not be able to run, so we would appeal to your readers to assist our Secretaries in organising their Sections, and to help out at the various competitions during the Feis.”

The following officers and committee were elected to serve on the Committee for Feis 2015:

President: Lena Corrigan; Chair: Catherine Murphy; Treasurer: Katie Crudden; Assistant , Maureen Mc Govern; PR Officer: Ita Vesey; (Secretaries); Art and Design: Ita McManus; Assistant, do, Ita Vesey; Classical music primary (vacant); Classical music post primary (vacant); Drama: Barbara Johnston; History: Maeve Jackson; Irish Language: Kathleen Lavin; Assistant, do Micheal O’Cathail; Irish Dancing: Catherine Murphy; Assistants, do, Caroline/Claire Murphy; Traditional Music: Monica Lunny; Verse:Helen Cleary

Feis has celebrated young local artistic talent for over 50 years

NO sooner, it seems, has one feis ended than the next one gets started on.
