THE UPCOMING Enniskillen Round Table black tie ball in the Killyhevlin Hotel will see proceeds raised go to Enniskillen RNLI which is nearing the completion of a new lifeboat station at its Carrybridge base.

Once completed, the modern station will replace the existing temporary accommodation which has housed the charity’s volunteer lifeboat crew for the past 13 years.

The new build will house an inshore lifeboat and launching tractor, rescue water craft (RWC) and quad, a relief RWC, mechanics room and a crew changing room on the ground floor.

The crew’s new training facilities, main office and storage room will be located on the first floor.

Outside the lifeboat and RWC will launch down a newly built, state-of-the-art slipway. There will also be space for up to 15 cars to park.

Speaking about the new station’s progress, David Courtney, RNLI shoreworks manager said, “The new lifeboat station for Enniskillen RNLI is making good progress and while we can’t give a definitive timeline for completion we are hoping it will be ready to be handed over to operations early next year.

“In terms of the build, finishes to the roof are almost complete which enables internal works to be carried out. First fix works are nearing completion and internal plastering is due to commence shortly. External joinery and windows are now fitted.”

As the building project continued throughout the year so did the work by the station’s fundraisers and lifeboat crew.

Some £60,000 is being raised locally for the new station with events to date including a 90 mile cycle from Enniskillen to Newcastle, a swim around Castle Island, barbecue events, coffee mornings and local street collections.
