Spanish musicians stop off in Derrylin

Aughakillymaude concert

A PACKED Aughakillymaude Centre, Derrylin, played host to a group of Spanish musicians who performed there as part of a ‘whistle stop’ tour of the county through August.

The Pulse and Plectrum Orchestra and choir from the Town of Paracuellos de Jarama, brought their unique sound to a number of venues in the county, before heading to perform at the Titanic Centre in Belfast.

Paracuellos is a town of the outskirts of Madrid in Spain and the connection with Fermanagh was formed through a friendship with Derrylin man, Martin Murphy, and his Spanish born wife, Belen.

Belen’s good friend Maria Angeles Peran former Minsister for Culture, Education and Sport and her sisters Rosia and Gemma form an integral part of this 35 strong group of singers and musicians.

The sisters play mandolins and guitars with the orchestra under the direction of Pablo and Jose Maria who have been leaders since its formation in 1990.

The group performed in the Millennium Hall, Arney, on Tuesday August 26 – and in Derrylin on Thursday past.
