The youth centre is where youth officers for the Fermanagh area are based and is a busy place offering a range of services and facilities for young people and including drop-in service two days a week.

The centre has pool tables, media and computer suites as well as being a place where young people can come to ‘chill out’ for a while.

Lakeland Youth Centre also organises courses, trips and residentials for young people from across the county.

Lakeland is the only youth centre in Fermanagh and the building was purchased by the Western Education and Library Board in 1993.

The proposed works include the demolition of the existing youth centre at Wellington Road, Enniskillen and the construction of a new purpose built facility on the existing site.

A Western Education and Library Board spokesperson, said: “The Western Education and Library Board (WELB) has welcomed the news of £1.3 million investment from the Department of Education (DE) for a new Lakeland Youth Centre, Enniskillen.

This capital investment will enable the Youth Service to demolish the existing Lakeland Youth Centre on Wellington Road, and construct a purpose built Youth Centre on the existing site.

The new building will provide 376 square metres of ground floor space accommodation that incorporates a reception, coffee bar, Internet café, meeting room and function space.

The first floor accommodation will provide 215 square metres of floor space that includes three offices, a conference room and gallery.

“The ethos of the Youth Centre will be to provide a safe, welcoming and natural environment which contributes to the vision of every young person achieving to his or her full potential at each stage of his or her development.

The new building will also act as an administration hub for youth service personnel in the Fermanagh Area and the local Youth Office for registered groups.”
