LISNASKEA teenager Ciara McDonald is making remarkable progress as she continues her recovery from cancer. Ciara was diagnosed with stage two Hodgkin’s lymphoma back on February 10, but now with ten of her 12 scheduled chemotherapy treatments completed she can see light at the end of the tunnel.

“Things are going really, really well and there’s only two more left thank God, explained the 18-year-old. “I had a bit of an iffy week being sick, the first time I have been sick in a while, but apart from that it’s going great and I’m just looking forward to July 21st.”

At her half-way point of treatment Ciara’s scan came back showing no traces of cancer and the former Mount Lourdes pupil is hoping for the all clear in three weeks.

“Fingers crossed it will be OK at the end, but I don’t want to jinx it. I’m feeling good though.”

In her spare time Ciara is enjoys relaxing with friends and family and is learning to drive. Such is the popularity of the Lisnaskea girl she has also been asked to do some modelling for a bridal store in Omagh.

“I don’t know what to expect, but I’m looking forward to it,” she remarked.

Ciara’s last chemotherapy session is scheduled for July 21st. She will then have a six week break before it is determined if any further treatment is required. The Lisnaskea girl already has plans for when that time comes.

“I wrote a ‘make a wish letter’ before I turned 18 and wrote down just a few wee wishes, I didn’t really put much thought into it, but out of that we’re going to visit the Harry Potter studios in London over the six week break and I’m so excited. I can’t wait!”

“We have the whole itinerary planned; we’re going to Madame Tussauds, the London Eye and everything. It’s only six weeks away now so it’s getting close.”
