GLOW… Highlighters have become the ‘must-have’ item for celebrities and their makeup artists

Our beauty blogger Catherine McCurry looks at how you can use a highlighter for glowing skin…

EVERYONE wants glowing, radiant skin particularly during the summer months when we expose more of it to the sun during the warmer weather.

We all have our basic day and night-time makeup routines, but one item that has become my staple in any makeup application is a highlighter.

Adding highlighter to your cheek bones, corners of your eyes, forehead, Cupid’s bow and bridge of the nose gives your ‘look’ an instant makeover which shows off your bone structure and gives it a fresh glow.

It has become the must-have item for celebrities and their makeup artists as it helps give A-listers a fresh, dewy look for any occasion whether they are on the red carpet or out on the street.

Most makeup brands are now selling a good range of highlighters which are growing in popularity because of its ability to create a youthful and dewy complexion.

It’s a great and easy way to brighten up a matte look and is very eye-catching as it highlights your best features. No matter what type of skin you have or if you suffer from a condition or acne, it’s a simple and effective way to distract from any blemishes.

The trick is to be able to reflect light in the most complimentary way and once you identify the parts of your face to do this, then it will be the easiest part of your makeup application.

My favourite highlighter is the award-winning Benefit Girl Meets Pearl face primer priced at £24.50.

Although this is quite expensive, I purchased it in December and still have plenty left so it’s worth the money.

This highlighter has a soft, golden-pink liquid which glides easily across your cheek bones and forehead.

It can be clearly seen when applied to the face so I like to use this in the evening time or for nights out.

A less expensive highlighter is Soap & Glory’s Glow All Out priced at approximately £10.

This powder highlighter is soft and quite fine so is perfect for wearing during the day. The powder contains lumisphere pigment pearls, an ultra-fine creamy powder shimmer finish.

A brand that I have recently fallen for is Nars. All products which I have used have been brilliant and their highlighting brush powder is no different.

The highlighter, which comes in four different shades, is made with transparent pigments to avoid heaviness on the skin so it can be used during the day or you could layer it up for a night-time look.

The cheapest highlighter I have come across is the Catrice fine and prime priced at just over £3.

Again, it’s a very light and natural illuminator but it’s still visible.

These products can be purchased in most chemists and Debenham stores.
