Music Focus: New video coincides with album release

Darkest Era.

CELTIC METAL band Darkest Era have unveiled a new music video to coincide with the worldwide release of their second full length album, ‘Severence’.

The band features a majority of members from Fermanagh – and underwent a number of band changes at the time of recording – as guitarist Ade explained this week.

The band, which features ‘Krum’ Maguire on vocals, Ade Mulgrew on guitar, Sarah Wieghell on guitar, Daniel O’Toole on bass, and Cameron Ahslund-Glass, on drums, previously released ‘The Last Caress of Light’, which they released in 2011.

Throughout last year, 2013, there were two line up changes: Bassist David Linsday and drummer Lisa Howe left the band and were replaced. Lisa’s drum parts were recorded prior to her departure and remain on the album.

The new album was recorded last year in Kerry with Chris Fielding, who also produced the band’s debut album and last week, the band released a video for their single ‘Beyond the Grey Veil’.

“Our album finally saw the light of day this weekend, so by Monday it was released in the UK, Europe and the US. As well as this we’ve just announced our first ever headlining tour of the UK,” explained guitarist Ade.

“We’ll be revisiting a bunch of cities that we’ve previously lain waste to on other tours but this time we’ll be coming back to do a full headline set including plenty of songs from the new album.”

The album is to be released world-wide via Cruz Del Sur Records on June 13 on CD and gatefold LP.  Ade continued: “It’s a great feeling to finally release the album. It has been a long road to get to this point and we’re just excited for people to hear it now.

“The reviews have just started coming in but they have been very positive so far, even more so than the first album. I think this album is resonating with people and we have read some reviews from listeners who have felt very, very passionate about it which is humbling.

“It can be hard to be objective about your own material but we are gracious for such a positive reaction so soon.”
