EIGHTEEN-YEAR-OLD Irvinestown student Ciara McCusker has come out on top in the ‘Miss International’ competition, held in Belfast over the weekend.
The former Mount Lourdes student, who has just finished her A-Levels, came up top in the adult category of the competition.
“The competition is about finding someone pretty and with a good personality, there was three categories kids, teens and adults,” Ciara explained.
“I won in the adults and it was out of 25 girls. Every girl had there own sash and crown as every one was finalists. Being in the competition was a great experience. It’s a very good opportunity to boost your confidence and it’s great to have something like this on your CV.”
The competition was organised by Ann Connor of the Northern Ireland School of Modelling.
Ciara had been shortlisted for the final along with four other girls.
“There were a lot of people over in England – there were few Chinese girls between the categories, there was a Hungarian, and a Polish girl – as well as others throughout Ireland. I couldn’t believe it when I won,” she added.
“Looking at the other four girls I was not expecting to win because I was the youngest – I’m only 18 and the other girls had been in this competition before whereas this was my first time entering and all the other girls were stunning – it was very surreal!
“The woman organising the competition is going to set up some modelling jobs for me, and then I am modelling out in Marbella for IN magazine which is based in Belfast.
“This is the first competition I’ve ever entered. It was great – it was really nerve-wrecking, but you used that adrenaline to push you through.”
