Boys a Boys

A BROOKEBOROUGH man has just launched a book about growing up in Fermanagh in the 1940s and 1950s.

‘Boys a boys’ is by Winston Graydon and was launched in Enniskillen library on Monday afternoon.

The book, entitled ‘Boys a boys,’ is by author Winston Graydon who was born and brought up in and around the village of Brookeborough.

Although the author has lived most of his adult life in Belfast he is a member of the Fermanagh Authors Association and likes to write of his experiences growing up in Fermanagh.

The book is a humorous look at the characters and goings on around Brookeborough when he was growing up in the forties and fifties.

Some of it based on fact but a lot of it based on the gossip of the day.

Giving a brief synopsis to the book, Winston introduces us to Paddy Finn and Sandy Gray, who were once close neighbours, living opposite each other on a narrow country road close to Brookeborough.

‘Now getting on it years, they often return to the worn stone bridge where they used to live and sit their chatting about the old times and how things have changed in a lifetime.

‘Boys a boys’ is a collection of fictitious conversations – some amusing, some sad – but all based on the talk about local characters and chit-chat in a small village in County Fermanagh.

Chapter titles include ‘The returned Yank’, ‘looking for a wife’ and ‘the scallywag’.

The book is illustrated by Jennifer Black and printed by Ecclesville Printing Services.
