Petrol bomb attack in housing estate

PSNI-Story-

POLICE officers carried out house to house enquiries at the week-end following an early morning attack on a house in the Drumbawn estate, Enniskillen when a petrol bomb-type device was thrown at the property.

The PSNI have confirmed there was one person inside the house at the time, but no one was injured.

A spokesman reported scorch damage to a wall and porch.

In addition to door-to-door enquiries, a police scenes of crimes officer took away some items for forensic examination.

The PSNI spokesman could not give a motive for the attack, and made the customary appeal for information.

A spokesman for the NI Housing Executive confirmed there was an incident in Drumbawn at 4am on Saturday 1 March which involved a Housing Executive home.

Its spokesman said staff were working with the PSNI on their investigations.

In past years, but not since 2010, there have been episodes of anti-social behaviour on the estate, including at least one petrol bomb attack.

This fresh outbreak seems to have caught people on the hop.

One resident, who did not wish to be named, told the Herald the first he heard about Saturday morning’s attack was when the Herald told him.

“It’s been quiet, very quiet, and long may they stay that way.

“Definitely, this is the kind of behaviour nobody wants.”

Drumbawn is one of four housing estates whose households, 180 in all, belong to the Drumcarron Community Association, the others being Drumbawn Close, Carron Crescent and Drumbeg.

Police have appealed to anyone who can help them with their enquiries to contact them on 0845 600 8000.
