Plans to restore disused playing field

Donnelly's Field could be developed

COUNCIL.. Donnelly’s Field could be developed

A POPULAR, now disused playing field, Donnelly’s Field, located in Kilmacormick, Enniskillen has got the backing of Fermanagh District Council for redevelopment.

The field, which is owned by the council, had been identified as a priority within the (Enniskillen) Neighbourhood Renewal Action Plan.

Consultants were then engaged to carry out a community consultation and economic appraisal towards its proposed redevelopment.

This week, Robert Gibson, the council’s director of leisure, reported that the feedback from the community favoured a three-quarters’ sized grass pitch, a path to enable safe access from the estate to the shops, and outdoor gym equipment.

“At the moment”, he added, “what has happened is that there’s no funding at the moment under the Neighbourhood Renewal process, so it has been put forward for ‘peace’ funding.

Planning permission has been approved and the council has agreed, subject to funding, to take the project forward.

“But, that will be subject to external funding being approved.”
