THERE is local interest tonight (Sunday) on The Voice of Ireland as Rossinver musician Craig McMorrow takes centre stage.
The 28-year-old qualified events manager from four miles outside Garrison will appear on the RTE show on Sunday and is hoping to go all the way.
“I first got into singing when I was through a traditional show called the Emerald Revellers,” explained Craig.” “I’d Irish dance and sing in the show and always enjoyed performing. I moved to London for four years and it was there I really got into singing. I used to gig all around North London and I ran a few Open Mic nights.
“Singing has always been a passion for me. I gig every week mostly around Leitrim, Sligo and Donegal.”
He admits after some family persuasion he decided to give it a go.
“My little sister Romai watches the show and she was at me for a while to apply and I decided this year I’d give it a go and sent in an audition tape.”
Despite being an experienced singer Craig was ‘surprisingly nervous’ in front of the judges.
“I’m used to singing in front of people but I had never done any auditions before so I did not know what to expect and if they were going to like my voice.”
He indebted to the ‘amazing support’ from everyone and he is excited to see himself on television. Will he get through?
“You’ll have to tune in on Sunday February the 9th at 6.30pm on RTE1 to see if any of the judges turn around for me and if I get through to the battle stages.”
