Enniskillen tennis coach Matthew McGann has been selected to represent Ireland in the World Team Championships in April.
Thirty nine year old McGann who has been head coach at the Enniskillen club for more than nine years, was delighted with the news of his call up in the veteran class.
He will travel to Palm Beach in Florida in April to take part in the vets event.
“It came as a total surprise to me, but I’m really chuffed about it.” he said. “It was a real surprise. In fact I didn’t know until John Maguire from the Irvinestown Tennis Club rang me up to tell he had seen it on the Tennis Ireland website.”
The Enniskillen coach went on, “It’s quite amazing to be selected as one of the top players in the country. It’s just amazing,” said McGann won two national titles last season, the National Indoor Championships in Belfast and the Irish National Championships in Dublin.
Now though it is down to the hard work of preparing for the World event.
“There will be plenty of training to do and a little bit of fundraising,” explained McGann. “But it is a great fillip for the club and tennis in Fermanagh.”
