AN ENNISKILLEN couple at the centre of a “massive and complex” alleged fraud case has appeared in court accused of eleven counts of fraudulent activity carried out over a three year period.

Clive Miller, 45, of Coleshill Crescent, appeared in the dock of Enniskillen Magistrates Court along with his 42-year-old wife Sonya Miller, of a separate address in Coleshill Crescent.

Mr Miller is accused of making false declarations to the Social Security Agency to obtain disability living allowance and income support, as well as allegedly making a false representation to get a war pension, forging a P60 form and false pay slips.

He is also accused of failing to tell authorities he was working abroad in Haiti and purchasing properties in Spain as well as converting or transferring criminal proceeds.
The defendant’s wife has also been accused of similar offences.

A defence solicitor made an application to amend Mr Miller’s bail conditions so he could attend a hospital appointment as he suffers from spinal injuries.

The court also heard that Mr Miller, who appeared in court supported by a crutch, had his benefits suspended so is entitled to legal aid.

An investigation officer expressed his concern over the bail amendments saying that the accused could flee to Spain where it is believed he has a holiday home.

However, his passport is in the possession of local police and District Judge Nigel Broderick said that was as good a restriction in regards to risk of flight.

Under their current bail conditions, the couple have to sign at a police station once a week.

A full file regarding the case is due next month. The case was described as containing “massive and complex documentation” by an investigating officer.

The pair were released on their own bail of £500 each.

They are due to appear in court on November 18.
