Come and talk to us, urges local credit

THE closure of Flynns Fine Foods is beginning to put the squeeze on ex-employees with savings in Roslea Credit Union, and on the credit union itself.

A thriving company in its own right, with 1,100 members, its performance, according to the chairman of its board of directors, Terry Rooney, will now be impacted upon when those same members face problems in repaying their loans.

“There are quite a few of our members working in Flynns. Some would have small loans taken out from the credit union, and it will now be hard for them to pay them back. So, certainly, there is no advantage to us f or Flynns to be closed.”

The one thing he advised any member in that situation is to meet with the credit union and discuss what can be done.

“There’s no point in them hiding, and that’s the main thing. Come and talk to us. While there is only a small amount of members who worked in Flynns, they’re all from families around about”, Mr Rooney explained.

“You know yourself what it’s like: a credit union is handy for taking out a loan, but it’s a different job paying it back. We are hoping that someone might take over Flynns, but it’s not looking good.”

And, as for the receiver coming in on the direction of the High Court on Wednesday week last, 4th September, and the fall-out from that, it seems the initial furore has quietened.

“There isn’t much talk about it”, Mr Rooney added, “ but what more really can  you say about it? There was a clinic on Friday which, hopefully, was a help to some of the ex-employees.”

Roslea Credit Union is open for business on Mondays, from 11am-12 noon, on Thursdays, from 7-8pm, Friday, 7-9pm and Saturday, 10am-11am.
