YOUNG actors from Brookeborough and surrounding area have been honing their acting skills as part of a Ulster Scots Summer School, which has been running over the past month.

Last week, from Monday 12 – Friday 16 August, a drama-based summer school was held in partnership with Brookeborough Primary School.

This was the first occasion that SEFF had teamed up with a local Primary School to run a Drama-based event.

As part of the Class Act drama the children acted out a play all about World War I learning some history while having fun at the same time.

This week-long summer school involved 30 young people from the school and surrounding south Fermanagh area.

Under the tutelage of Stephanie Kenny, those participating learnt a play and then performed the play on the Friday afternoon.

SEFF contributes towards Ulster Scots cultural and educational awareness through holding Summer School events.

Sunday heralded the conclusion of a trio of Ulster Scots Summer School events run via South East Fermanagh Foundation over the Summer months.

Over last weekend, 27 young people aged 11-16yrs participated in a Residential Summer School event held at the Lough Melvin Holiday Centre, Garrison.

On offer for young people included: Canoeing, Football, Drama, an Identity workshop and various Arts and Crafts-based activities.

In late July 2013, SEFF had held a 5-day Summer School involving almost 70 young people aged 7-16yrs. This Annual Summer School was again held in the buildings and grounds of Lisnaskea High School.

SEFF’s Director of Services Kenny Donaldson went on to explain the reasoning for holding the Projects: Mr Donaldson commented: “SEFF is committed to deepening its roots within the community and of providing the means for our young people to learn their culture and heritage in a positive way and within an atmosphere of fun and enjoyment.”

“Across the three summer school events we have been able to work with circa 115-120 individual young people.

“We could of course not have done so without the help of committed leaders at all events, the assistance of funders and with the Drama initiative, the expertise of Stephanie Kenny and Brookeborough Primary School (location for the event)”
