Fermanagh enter the All Ireland quarter final with Roscommon as warm favourites but they will also be well aware of the perils facing provincial winners.
At the weekend Cavan hammered Munster champions Waterford 3-18 to 1-10 while Tipperary shocked Leinster champs Longford coming out on top by the minimum on a scoreline of 3-11 to 3-10.
Down will face Sligo in the other quarter final with the Mourne girls fancied to progress so Fermanagh will have to be on their guard that Roscommon don’t turn up to spoil their party.
The game will get under-way at 3:45 in Clones on Saturday and it is hoped that a sizeable and vocal Fermanagh support attend.
Roscommon represent a considerable challenge. Youthful and full of energy and running the Rossies will have gained a lot of confidence from their victory over Leitrim and Fermanagh will need to ensure they don’t facilitate any adding to that confidence by allowing the girls from the West to get a good start.
The Erne girls have been very impressive to date this year with manager Paula Cunningham managing to mix considerable experience with a sprinkling of exuberant youth.
Roisin Gleeson is a dependable last line of the defence and in front of her is a full back line that has been exceptionally tight this season.
Kyla McManus at full back is flanked by Claire Woods on one side and Shauna McQuaid on the other.
16 year old McQuaid has really been catching the eye with some brilliant displays this season and she has been a real boost to the team.
Tara Little at number six is a defensive general well capable of both playing her role to a tee and organising those around her with Shauna Hamilton on the wing providing an attacking presence that no team has been able to curb to date this season.
In the middle of the field the experienced duo if Aisling Moane and Marcella Monaghanare more than capable of holding sway and providing a slick forward line with the possession that it needs to get the scoreboard ticking over.
The Little sisters, Caroline and Sharon have been in cracking form this season with Sharon claiming the player of the match in the Ulster final with a brilliant performance while Caroline continues to be as scoring machine.
Noelle Connolly at full forward is an integral piece in the jigsaw with her ability to win primary possession vital to everything that Fermanagh does in attack.
The Erne girls also have strength and depth on the bench with the likes of Lynn McFrederick pushing hard for a starting place and well capable of turning a game if sprung into action.
Fermanagh will be favourites on Sunday especially given they were winners of what is always a very competitive Ulster Championship.
Cavan are already in the semi finals and Down are fancied to join them when they meet Sligo on Saturday so there is a real chance that there could well be three Ulster teams in the last four, especially if Fermanagh are able to perform to the levels that they have shown this year.
