Anthony in ‘Game of Thrones’ thick of it

WHAT DO Game of Thrones, Six Degrees, and Castle Coole-filmed Miss Julie, have in common?
Local lad Anthony Breen, that’s what.

The twenty-two year old Queen’s university film studies graduate has had a whirl-wind 12 months, working on programmes watched by millions – and he even took a stop in his old stomping ground, Fermanagh, as camera assistant for the film, Miss Julie.
“My first job was as a locations assistant on a show called Six Degrees,” Anthony explained this week, not long before he was due to start filming the new Game of Thrones series.

“I originally went for a camera assistant, which I am now, but at the time they already had someone there in that company – but I took the opportunity.

“It fell into place after that. They knew I wanted to work in camera, and after I finished my degree I got a call to work in the camera department.

“They did a TV show called Scup, and that was my first every paid camera trainee role,” he added.

Anthony, who is well-known locally for playing in popular Fermanagh band ‘Momma’s Slippers’, described everything as having become a ‘bit crazy’ after that.

After a stint working on HBO’s of Game of Thrones, what soon followed was the camera assistant role of the £3.6m film, Miss Julie, shot in Castle Coole.

“It was amazing because having a year in the industry to work on a feature film with such massive star names, it was one of those things that I was constantly pinching myself over. Things like, I’ve just been chatting Colin Farrell for half an hour.

“But then I also had my professional head on me – I didn’t let it get to me,” he added.
Having his first feature film taking place at home was something that Anthony described as ‘very strange’ but enjoyable.

“The crew loved Enniskillen, and I think the cast did too. They thought it was a lovely town and a lovely place to be working.
The film is due for release next year.

“It’s going to be surreal – to actually see my name at the end of it will be a shock. It’s always interesting to watch something that you’ve worked on – because you know what impact you made at that part of the film.”

On June 24, Anthony will start filming the new series of the hugely popular Game of Thrones.
