A VITAL COMMUNITY FACILITY is to get an extensive refurbishment, thanks to £416,000 worth of funding announced for the Kilmacormick Resource Centre in Enniskillen.
Last week, the Social Development Minister, Nelson McCausland said the funding boost would be used to cover the capital costs of an extension and refurbishment at the Yoan Road site , and the cost of professional fees for an outside consultant to supervise the building works to completion stage.
The award has been made to the Northern Ireland Housing Executive in Enniskillen who will manage the delivery of the entire project.
Mr McCausland stated: “This project will provide real and significant benefits to residents in Enniskillen.”
He explained that the centre provides opportunities for residents to access a wide range of activities, including training schemes, health programmes and educational projects.
“The refurbishment work and substantial extension will enable an increase in its usage. This is good news for people in the Enniskillen Neighbourhood Renewal Area (ENRA).”
The Kilmacormick Resource Centre, based at 35 Yoan Road, Kilmacormick is in the heart of the ENRA.
The aim of the project is to provide a modern community facility which can be used by Kilmacormick Community Association and the Devenish Partnership Forum, and by the wider community in the Devenish area of Enniskillen.
This facility will assist with the levering of training and services directly into the Devenish area, which, in terms of deprivation in Fermanagh, is ranked the highest area, and it is in the Top ten most deprived areas across Northern Ireland, this, according to 2011 NINIS statistics.
The total amount of money spent on neighbourhood renewal to date in Enniskillen amounts to just over £2.6million.
