THE KINAWLEY Drama Group are gearing up for another rip-roaring performance, with this year’s play, ‘Mammy knows best’ to be rolled out on Friday, March 8.
The group which was formed in 1966 by the late Canon Liam Gaffney, do a play each year and have on one occasion reached the all-Ireland final. The group continues to travel to different venues, delighting the audiences each year with their witty, original performances.
‘Mammy knows best’ is this year’s offering, and Hugh Murphy is reluctant to give too much of the plot away.
“It is a three-act comedy is what I will say. I just don’t want to give away any of the story as, hopefully, a lot of people will pay to come and see it.”
However, he did reveal that the three leads are Sean McGovern, Dolores Corrigan and John McGovern.
The group are really looking forward to this year’s performance in the new community centre in Kinawley and, through the Herald, they wanted to acknowledge the hall committee chairman, Kevin Lunny and all the committee members for an outstanding achievement of getting the new hall up and running.
Doors open at 8.15pm on March 8 and the play will start at 9.00pm sharp.
The full cast list is as follows: Sean McGovern, Dolores Corrigan, Blaithin McAveety, John McGovern, Anne Malanophy, James Breen, Thomas Cleary and Hugh Murphy.
The production is by John McGovern and Hugh Murphy, while the set has been designed and constructed by Tony Malanophy.
Make-up artist for the production is Catherine Brennan and stage assistants are Helena Ward, Catherine Owens and Kathleen Malanophy, with lighting orchestrated by Dean Strathie.
The drama group are hoping for a big turnout, and thank those in the local community and those further afield for their continued support over the past 47 years.
