Hike in carpark charges kick in this Saturday

Wellington Place car park beside Enniskillen Castle will remain free

FROM this Saturday, car parking in Enniskillen town centre will be a more expensive for workers and shoppers.
The popular £1 for five hours parking in Enniskillen’s carparks will be abolished from Saturday, September 1st and parking is set to double in price in certain carparks.
The changes have come as part of a five year off-street car parking strategy which has been agreed on by Fermanagh and Omagh District Councillors in an attempt to address the issues of long stay car parking in key locations in Enniskillen.
From Saturday, a new fee of £0.40 per hour at the car parks on Head Street, Quay Lane North and Shore Road East car parks while Quay Lane South and Shore Road West will be charged at £0.40 for three hours.
Eden Street, Cross Street, Down Street and Market Street car parks have been identified as premium car parks and will be charged at £0.50p per hour.
Wellington Place, beside Enniskillen Castle, which is widely used by workers in the town will remain free to use, but a maximum stay of three hours will be put in place for 19 out of the 268 spaces.
Fermanagh Lakeland Forum will also remain free, but will be monitored and it may be necessary to introduce restricted parking or a fixed penalty notice for the misuse of the car park.
At the July Fermanagh and Omagh District Council meeting, councillors voted to ratify the car parking proposal which will see new car parking charges introduced. Chief Executive Brendan Hegarty spoke at the meeting saying, “We did have some engagement with the business community and DfI Roads.
“The business representatives did ask that the council would consider facilitating more signage on the approach to carparks, and also potentially looking at some pilot schemes around the Christmas period.”
