Man fined after coming off moped at roundabout

A 45-year-old man has been fined for careless driving after coming off his moped at a roundabout during what he called a “lapse of concentration”.
William McIntyre of Coleshill Crescent in Enniskillen represented himself when he appeared before Enniskillen Magistrates Court on Monday to face the charge.
The court was told that on 13th November last, police received a report that a pedestrian had been knocked down at the Cherrymount Roundabout in Enniskillen. When officers attended the South West Acute Hospital to speak to those involved, they found that McIntyre had been driving a moped which he had come off. He said he had been attempting to avoid a collision with another vehicle at the roundabout.
District Judge Nigel Broderick heard that the defendant had been in the wrong lane to take the second exit off the roundabout and had moved on without indicating. This had caused him to collide with a red car and come off his moped, resulting in minor injuries.
Representing himself, McIntyre said he had swerved to miss the car, adding that he had been the only one hurt in the incident. “There was no damage except to myself and my vehicle. I broke my indication and forgot to put it back on. It was a lapse of concentration for a moment,” he added.
McIntyre said he has held a provisional licence for two years.
Judge Broderick said he would take into account that if anybody had come off worse in the collision it was the defendant.
McIntyre said he still suffered from sore ribs following the incident.
The defendant was fined £115 and handed three penalty points.
