Dismay over closure of Cornagrade Post Office

The Post Office on the Cornagrade Road

ANY retailer or small business who wishes to take on a post office has been urged to apply following the closure of the Cornagrade Road outlet.
The Cornagrade Road Post Office closed temporarily on March 9th following the resignation of the postmaster and withdrawal of premises for Post Office use.  The Post Office is now looking for applications from potential retail partners interested in running a branch locally and providing the much needed service for the community.
Local Councillor Debbie Coyle is hoping that the Post Office will remain on the Cornagrade Road, as it is a vital service in a highly populated part of Enniskillen.
“It is really disappointing that the Post Office is gone because it is such a large populated area, and it is a big loss. If it is put it into a shop – it still doesn’t offer all of the services that a Post Office does, and you still need to go into the town to get other services such as passport services.
“It is an inconvenience and any loss of a Post Office is a loss to the community but I do hope that somebody in that area will take on that service so that it is not lost altogether. I am very sad to see it go especially in such a populated area around the Cornagrade Road,” said Cllr Coyle.
Meanwhile, the Tamlaght Post Office closed it’s doors on February 28th following the resignation of the postmaster and withdrawal of premises for Post Office use – and a new operator is also being sought for this Post Office.
A Post Office spokesman said: “We understand and appreciate how much communities rely on our services and we apologise to customers for any inconvenience caused. Any customers wishing to access Post Office services may do so from Enniskillen Post Office, and Chanterhill Post Office.
“Any retailer or small business owner interested in running either of the post offices and incorporating it into their business should email NTquestions@postoffice.co.uk.”
