Traditional music festival weekend in Newtownbutler

Young musicians tune up for the traditional music festival in Newtownbutler

This weekend will see the annual Newtownbutler Comhaltas Canon Edward Murphy Memorial Trad weekend.
This is the second year it has been dedicated to the late Canon Edward Murphy a great supporter of traditional music.
The festival of music in Newtownbutler begins on Friday night with a Traditional Concert featuring a host of Ireland’s finest musicians from far and near starting at 7.30pm in the Community Centre. On Saturday a day of music workshops will run in St. Mary’s Primary School from 10am with tutors George McAdam on Banjo, Tadhg Mulligan on fiddle, David Vesey on flute, Saran Mulligan on concertina, John M Cann on button accordion, Aisling McPhillips on whistle and Stevie Dunne tutoring the guitar. This is a great opportunity for students to get a chance to learn from some of the cream of Ireland’s trad musicians.
An Chead Chumann is the venue for a session on Saturday evening following the day of classes and an opportunity to guest with the days tutors.
