Stab accused back in jail to face trial

A 27-YEAR-old man, charged in connection with a stabbing in Lisnaskea last year that left three men in hospital, has been returned to custody after being extradited from the Republic of Ireland.
Brendan McLaughlin of Tempo Road, Enniskillen will stand trial for attempted murder, grievous bodily harm, theft and other road traffic offences in relation to incidents in the Lisnaskea, Irvinestown and Omagh areas in 2015 and 2016.
The father-of-three is charged with the attempted murder of Michael Fox, the attempted murder of Conor McBarron, grievous bodily harm (GBH) with intent on Dylan Quaille, and burglary with the intent to commit GBH at a house in Trasna Way in the early hours of Saturday, October 8th 2016.
He also faces eight charges in relation to a burglary and vehicle thefts earlier this year. He is charged with burglary at a house in Trillick when he stole two sets of car keys, a Ford Mondeo and Transit mini bus; dangerous driving and driving while disqualified at Glen Road, Trillick; aggravated vehicle taking causing injury to a female and failing to stop for police. All matters relate to an alleged incidents between March 2nd and 4th this year.
He is further charged with taking a car without the owner’s permission, driving while disqualified and dangerous driving on roads between and including John Street, Omagh and Loughmuck Road, Fintona on August 13, 2015. He is charged with breaking into a house at Sallys Wood, Irvinestown with the intention of assaulting a male on August 4, 2016.
McLaughlin was arrested on December 11th in the Republic of Ireland on foot of four European Arrests Warrants sought by the PSNI. He was recently released from prison in the Republic where he had been jailed for eight months for drink driving and dangerous driving in relation to a high speed garda chase across Donegal and ramming a patrol car. McLaughlin appeared at Newry Magistrates Court last Thursday and was remanded in custody to Maghaberry Prison. He is due before Omagh Magistrates Court on January 9th.
