Roslea pharmacy ‘staying open’ for foreseeable future

McDaids Pharmacy in Roslea

MANAGEMENT at the McDaid Pharmacy Group have moved to quell rumours that they are closing their doors in Roslea later this year.
Family run firm McDaid’s, who also operate an outlet in Lisnaskea, was responding to rumours that their Roslea outlet would close in December.
Villagers there are still reeling from the closure of their GP surgery back in April that has forced patients to make a round trip of over 30 miles to see doctors at the oversubscribed Maple Practice in Lisnaskea. The loss of Roslea surgery has left the village without a doctor for the first time in 100 years and fears had been expressed by locals that their pharmacy could be next to go.
Since then the local secondary school, St Eugene’s College, has also closed its doors with pupils from there now attending the new St Kevin’s College in Lisnaskea.
In the absence of a doctor’s surgery, a pharmacy-based Skype service has been offered to those urgently seeking a GP consultation, where a private doctor can assesses patients face-to-face online for a £46 fee.
In a statement on social media this week, McDaid’s reassured customers that they will be remaining on Main Street in Roslea.
“We would like to reassure the people of Roslea that we are open for business for the foreseeable future. The rumours that we are closing our doors at Christmas are not true! We are here to serve this community for as long as our loyal customers continue to use the pharmacy.
“This town has lost enough valuable services in recent years and we do not want to lose any more. Please help us to help you by supporting your local businesses so that we will be here for you for many years to come,” a spokesman said.
