Man (26) accused of rape at wedding

Enniskillen Magistrates Court

A 26-year-old man has appeared in court charged with sexual assault.
Jamie Kerr of Mornington Gardens in Lisburn turned up for the Preliminary Enquiry hearing at Enniskillen Magistrates’ Court.
He is accused of raping a woman in April 2016. The court heard that the alleged incident took place at a wedding in Fermanagh. The victim cannot be named for legal reasons.
Kerr, who was dressed in a suit and accompanied by his parents, stood as the charges were put to him. A Public Prosecution Service (PPS) representative told the court that, based on the papers submitted, the defendant had a case to answer.
Defence solicitor Bernard Corrigan said that the charge was not formally conceded but added that he was making no contrary submission. District Judge Nigel Broderick said he was “satisfied” the defendant had a case to answer.
Kerr declined to answer the charges against him at this stage. He further declined to give evidence himself, call any witnesses or tender a written statement of a witness.
Kerr was released on his own bail of £500 to appear at Dungannon Crown Court for arraignment on October 25th.
