Prison sentence for assaulting former partner

Court

Enniskillen Magistrates Court

A Scottish man living in Fermanagh has been given a prison sentence for assaulting his ex-partner.
Reece Williams (21), of Lisolvan Park, Brookeborough but originally from Scotland, appeared at Enniskillen Magistrates Court on Monday where he pleaded guilty to three counts of common assault and three counts of criminal damage in relation to two incidents.
At around 11.30pm on Monday, May 1 police called to an address in Brookeborough after Williams had called to say he’d assaulted his partner.
When the officers arrived and spoke to her partner, she said he’d grabbed her by the arm and throat, shouting into her face and making her fear for her safety. She had small marks on her face and arm. Williams then punched their bathroom door, leaving a hole in it. The couple had a seven-week old baby together at that time.
Williams, who had scratches on his face, was arrested and en route to the police station he told the officers he had anger issues.
Then, on Monday July 10 at approximately 2.30am, police were called to the same address in Brookeborough, where Williams’ now ex-partner told them she’d been in the house with her sister, friends and four month old son when Williams came and forced his way into the house and demanded to see his son.
The defendant ran to his son’s bedroom, shouting at his former partner and waking the baby. Her sister took the baby away, and her friend shouted at Williams to calm down. He pushed the friend against a door, then kicked the door, getting his foot stuck in the hole.
Williams then grabbed his partner by the wrist, causing it to bend unnaturally, and by the throat.
District Judge Nigel Broderick said Williams, who intends on remaining in Fermanagh when he is released from prison, would get some credit for his previously clear record and early pleas.
Stating the defendant seemed to recognise he had anger management issues, he sentenced him to three months in prison, which will be back dated to July, and gave him a 12 month probation order on the condition he undertakes anger management counselling.
