Jail for drink driver who was four times the limit

Court

A banned driver was jailed for eight months and disqualified for seven years after being twice caught over four times the legal drink driving limit.
Dariusz Telejko (45) of Carrowshee Park in Lisnaskea, appeared via videolink from Magheraberry Prison before Monday’s sitting of Enniskillen Magistrates Court.
The court heard that two police stopped Telejko behind the wheel of a blue Ford Focus at Carrowshee Park on February 27th last who was banned from driving. Police also detected a strong smell of alcohol. Telejko failed a roadside breath test and when arrested returned an evidential reading of 142 micrograms of alcohol per 100ml of breath. He was charged with drink driving and driving while disqualified.
Telejko also faced two theft charges on 2nd July 2016 when he entered Lidl, Lisnaskea and stole a bottle of Smirnoff Vodka and a can of Grafenwalder Pils beer worth £14.35. He also took three swimming costumes and two more cans of Grafenvalder valued at £10.60. He concealed the stolen goods down his trousers and in his jacket.
Telejko was identified on CCTV and via a vehicle registration check. When police attended his home address they found the swimsuits in the kitchen.
A third set of charges against Telejko related to an incident on June 30th when he was found driving a silver Vauxhall Vectra near his home. Police followed him and noted that he failed to indicate at a roundabout and again when entering the housing estate. They again discovered that he was driving while disqualified and uninsured.
Officers detected a strong smell of alcohol and when breath tested he returned a reading of 141 micrograms, resulting in another drink driving charge. A
Defence barrister Ciaran Roddy described the high readings as “astronomical” but noted that on both occasions his client “didn’t swerve or inconvenience other road users”. District Judge Nigel Broderick replied: “Only by the grace of God given his level of intoxication.”
Sentencing Telejko, the judge said: “These are serious matters given your very high alcohol readings and aggravated by the fact that you breached your disqualification twice. If you had caused injury to anyone or God forbid killed them you would be facing a very long custodial sentence.”
