A MAJOR EXTENSION at the community hub Fermanagh House has been officially opened and is ready for business with a big crowd turning out to have the first sneak peak of the development.
The new investment will provide much needed support to local groups and charities in the Fermanagh area, improving the lives of many local people. Fermanagh House has been established since 2007, and the new extension has increased the floor space by over 70% and will house a range of new services and facilities, including a dedicated community education resource and hot desks for regional groups and fledging community initiatives and enterprises wanting a presence in Fermanagh. First Minister Arlene Foster, and Junior Minister Megan Fearon officially opened the 500m extension to Fermanagh House.
Speaking at the official opening, manager Lauri McCusker said, “We are delighted that we have the building officially opened within less than a year, and the building is already so well used with a number of new organisations based in the centre. It is fantastic.
“Having the First Minister, and the Junior Minister here is great, and we are very thankful for the funding we have received to make this possible. We are very busy, and we hope to continue to build on that, and we have a lot of organisations moving into the building, and a lot already established here.
“The demand is incredible as people from across the county and further afield are accessing services of all kinds such as educational, health or social related opportunities. It is great that they can convene here and use this good quality facility and for us to meet the demand,” he added.
The extension cost £920,000 and was funded by The Executive Office through the Social Investment Fund Programme. Fermanagh and Omagh District Council are assisting the development of the project by providing a long term lease on the land to facilitate the extension.
Local MP Tom Elliott, attended the opening of Fermanagh House, and said, “I really have to commend and congratulate the work of the Fermanagh Trust and especially their board. Having attended the official opening of the new extension, it is really apparent that the top quality conference rooms, office space and other areas will be of huge benefit to the community and voluntary groups, charities and other organisations which utilise Fermanagh House.
“It has the real potential to become a top quality social hub in the heart of Enniskillen, which will be able to reach out into the community,” he added.
