‘ROCKING around the Christmas tree’ is blasting from the speakers but there is a row over untangling last year’s lights and in the box of Christmas decorations there is a few that has seen better days.

Christmas tree decorations can add that festive spirit to a household and over the last number of years decorating the house for Christmas has incorporated outside as well.

Now there is so much to choose from when decorating for Christmas, with a wide range of lights and Christmas decorations available on the high street for great prices.

Here are some easy tips for decorating your Christmas tree that will make the whole process a lot easier.

1) PICK A COLOUR SCHEME

This will make your tree look cohesive and complete no matter how many decorations are on the tree. It might be worth bearing in mind to choose a colour that won’t clash with the room the tree is in.

Classic colour- red and green which can be added to with a bit of gold or silver. Clear lights work best with this option.

Wintry colours- blue, silver and purple can make an icy looking tree. Try to avoid red, yellow or gold and pick clear or blue lights.

Metallic colours- Gold, silver and bronze are colours that mix easily and are best with clear lights.

2) PICK A THEME

This is maybe something you have never thought of however it can make a tree seems less fussy. Specific themes can include angels, nutcrackers, snowflakes or ornaments from a region or country.

3) HANG THE LIGHTS FIRST

This is the most labour intensive part and it is best to start from top to the bottom.

4) DECORATE WITH GARLAND, RIBBONS OR TINSEL

You will then see how much space is need for decorations.

5) PUT THE TOPPER ON

Yes I know, it is traditionally the last thing but the it means that a tree full of decorations won’t topple over at the last minute.

6) ADD THE ORNAMENTS

Remember to think about the bottom of the tree if you have pets or small children. Place larger ornaments deep inside the tree closer to the trunk to give dimension.

Placing large ornaments on the outside can be effective if done sparingly. With a range of amazing decorations for both inside and out here is a few top picks to make your Christmas sparkle.
