AN ELDERLY couple in the Loane Drive area of Enniskillen have been left devastated after their house was burgled in broad daylight. Last Tuesday, the couple left their home for a short period of time and returned to find their house ransacked around 2pm.

Councillor Debbie Coyle, who is a member of the Police District Policing Partnership, was shocked to hear of the burglary on an elderly couple in the Enniskillen Area.

“I was very disappointed to hear that this crime took place locally. It’s a disgrace that vulnerable people, who may not be able to physically defend themselves, are targeted in this way. It is important that the perpetrators of this crime are caught and brought to justice and I will be contacting the PSNI for an update in this.

“However, I also think it is very important it build up and strengthen community relations within the community to prevent these crimes from happening.”

Ms Coyle said that as the dark winter nights are fast approaching, it is vital that people in the community come together and look in on their elderly neighbours and those who are vulnerable to similar crimes.

“Having spoken to people in the area, they are indeed worried and concerned especially this time of year, as the dark nights draw in. I would therefore encourage all people that live beside an elderly or vulnerable neighbour, to pop in and check that they are okay. If your elderly or vulnerable neighbour does not have locks or security, encourage them to put measures in place to help to prevent this type of crime. Advice can be given from the PCSP on these issues,” added Councillor Debbie Coyle.

Police are currently appealing for any information regarding the burglary in the Loane Drive area.

A PSNI spokesman said: “At approximately 2.30pm police received a report that the house of an elderly couple in the Loane Drive are of
Enniskillen had been burgled. The couple had only left the house for a brief period and returned to find their home ransacked. I would appeal to anyone who may have witnessed anyone behaving suspiciously in the Loane Drive area between 1.30pm and 2.30pm to contact detectives
in Enniskillen on 101.

“Alternatively if someone would prefer to provide information without giving their details, they can contact Crimestoppers and speak to them anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
