ELO seeks doggy superstars

Enniskillen Ligh Operatic are seeking their Toto for this year's Chirstmas production.

Enniskillen Ligh Operatic are seeking their Toto for this year’s Chirstmas production.

THE summer may only be over, but plans are already well underway for the Enniskillen Light Operatic (ELO) 2016 Christmas show.
While casting for the this year’s production, the much loved Wizard of Oz, is almost complete and rehearsals have already started, there’s still a central cast member yet to be cast — Toto.
“One very important part remains unfilled and auditions are still to be held for the four-legged star,” said Karen Whaley from ELO.
“Toto is a small friendly, loyal dog, but with a nose for a wicked witch and we believe that in Fermanagh there is a four-legged waiting for his debut.
“Toto would need to not just look the part, but be a calm team player with a nose to stardom and have an owner willing to commit to rehearsals and show dates.”
Ms Whaley added there had been a bit of debate at the ELO whether to go with a real dog or not, and even considered having a person dressed as a dog. In the end “the cute factor” won out.
She added finding the right canine cast member would not only enhance the production, but could be the start of great things for the successful pooch.
“It we can find the right dog, it’s an opportunity for doggy stardom,” Ms Whaley said, who added a dog handler would be brought in to ensure there would be no ‘accidents’ in the theatre during the production.  “They will be starting on a small stage, but after that the world will be their kennel.”
Do you have a pet who could play the part? If so, put your best paw forward by sending a photo and contact details to eknlo@hotmail.com
Temperament screening and witch seeking abilities will then be assessed at a general audition on Sunday, September 25.
