It has been confirmed this week that Fr Brian D’Arcy will be leaving St Gabriel’s Retreat at the Graan in 12 months time, the Herald can exclusively reveal.
His position as Superior will be taken by Fr Charles Cross.
But Fr Brian, now aged 71 years, sees it as a 12 month extension of his stay at the place he loves so much.
“I’ll be disappointed within myself because I love Fermanagh and the Graan and its people, but it was the same when I was in Dublin and Crossgar,” he said.
“I have been told I will be leaving next year, but I really see it as I am staying for another 12 months. I can’t really be disappointed because I’ve loved my time here at the Graan as Superior. You only get so many years at that and my time has been stretched as much as possible I think,” he said.
He has been telling people for some time that he was likely to move on or cease to be Rector of the Graan in Enniskillen.
The popular priest has been stationed at the Graan five times during his career and is looking forward to his final 12 months.
“We’ll still be organising the Novena, the Christmas Draw and other special things we do here. So there is plenty to do,” said Fr Brian.
