The Grand Final of The Tullana on the Green sponsored Summer League at Irvinestown Lawn Tennis Club could not have been any closer when the play-off was contested last Wednesday.

The Surf Boarders, who topped the League after six weeks play, were going head to head with The Sun Dancers who finished just 3 points behind them.

First blood on the night went the way of The Surf Boarders courtesy of an 8-5 win by Brendan King and partner David Lowe who was subbing. Determined to ensure this was not one-way traffic, Kirsty Murray and Kate Heaver took the next match by the same scoreline for The Sun Dancers.

So into round two and Kirsty, now with partner David McDowell, really put the pressure on, by taking the third game of the evening with a very impressive 9-4 victory for The Dancers.

This meant that the Surf Boarders needed to take the final tie of the night by a scoreline of at least 10-3 to edge a win and David Lowe with Laura McDowell went on to do just that ending the League with a 27-25 point victory.

A worthy win for the team who had been the League front-runners, and a great night of tennis played in good humoured spirit and the warmth of a summer evening.

The Presentation of prizes took place after an excellent meal in the Tullana on the Green on Saturday and Club Captain Mary McCoy expressed sincere thanks to Raymond and Karen Knox for their kind sponsorship of the League once again this year.
