ST Michael’s College has been hitting the right note in recent times, with the school’s music department impressing those behind the Ulster Youth Choir (UYC).
One student has even been invited to join the UYC while five others have been selected to train with the prestigious choir after a recent visit by Conductor Eunan McDonald to the school.
Mr McDonald dropped by the music department at St Michael’s earlier this month, where he took part in an innovative choral workshop.
A total of 80 pupils took part in the workshop and afterwards those who were old enough took part in an audition process in which they performed pieces they had been working on.
Following these auditions one student, Conor Hughes, was selected as a member of the UYC while students Ben Kettyles, Rory Blake, Peter McMahon, Josh Kyle and Eoin McCaffrey where called up to join the Ulster Youth Training Choir (UYTC).
Acting head of music at St Michael’s, Carina Ferguson, congratulated the successful pupils, and all who took part in the workshop, who she said had shown great “passion for musical performance.”
The selected pupils are due to attend a one week training programme at Campbell College, Belfast, in July.
