STAFF at O2 in Enniskillen are taking an 190ft leap for charity by abseiling down Belfast City Hospital to help raise funds for Friends of the Cancer Centre.

Declan Devlin, who owns the business, will along with staff members Geralyn Tracey, Angela McCusker, Philip McManus, Darrin Simpson and Patrice Ryder take part in the fundraiser in April. Through the Herald he has appealed for the people to join them in the adrenaline filled challenge, which offers a chance to see the North’s fourth tallest building from a completely different angle as they make a descent right into the heart of the city.

Looking ahead to the big event, Declan, who has never done anything like this before said:

“I’ve been a supporter of Friends of the Cancer Centre for a long time and in particular its Fermanagh fundraising group, which raises vital funds locally to support cancer patients and families affected by cancer.
“I’ve seen the impact the charity has had on the lives of people right here in Fermanagh and I really wanted to contribute to that by taking on a challenge.”

Friends of the Cancer Centre is one of the leading cancer charities in Northern Ireland working to support cancer patients, their families and carers through key projects in the areas of research, patient comfort and care and clinical care. Many patients make the journey from Fermanagh to the Cancer Centre every day and they are supported by the work of the charity. The charity’s Fermanagh fundraising group has been raising vital funds to support this work and to date have raised over £500,000.

Geraldine Corrigan, chairman of Friends of the Cancer Centre’s Fermanagh group added:

“In 2015, Friends of the Cancer Centre held its first ever ‘Take on the Tower Abseil’ with 270 people taking part, raising a fantastic £150,000. This year is set to be even bigger and we’re calling on the local people of Fermanagh to follow in Declan’s footsteps by registering for this fantastic event.”

The  ‘Take on the Tower Abseil’ takes place on Saturday April 9 and Sunday April 10.

Registration for the event is £40 and participants are asked to raise a suggested minimum sponsorship of £150 for the charity. For more information visit www.friendsofthecancercentre.com or call 02890699393.
