Fermcollage

Other counties may scoff at the manner in which us Fermanagh fans relish so the opportunity to play in an All-Ireland quarter final, but these moments are so and far few between for u that we try to make the most of them.

And with less than 24 hours until Fermanagh face Dublin in their first quarter-final since 2004 – we’ve picked out seven things that are getting us excited about the Croke Park showdown.

1. The last time Fermanagh played a quarter-final, it ended in a momentous moment: Tom Brewster’s point in the dying moments. Seen in the video below, the point, and win, resulted in scenes unlike those seen for Fermanagh GAA before.

2. It’s an underdog story. That classic by-word for Fermanagh football ‘underdog’ has reared its head again. No doubt Dublin are a serious force, and odds for a Fermanagh win are exceptionally low – but the neutral can’t help but be drawn to what would be an incredible feat. And as for Fermanagh fans? Well…

3. Some of the national coverage has been brilliant. Including a huge range of interviews, back page splashes, and videos: We’ve been spoilt for coverage. Oh, and the Fermananagh Herald has given its fair share, too.

4. There have been plenty of memories so far. With fans flocking to pitches after memorable wins, there has been a plethora of fan/player photos that it’s hard not to smile about. The players have shown appreciation for the fans, and young fans especially have been given a memory or two that they’ll not forget. 11781776_10153472408439268_7813444063640073423_n 5. Tweets like this. If you take a cursory search of ‘Fermanagh GAA’ on Twitter, there are no shortage of tweets from fans, players, and admirers. This one from Fermanagh’s own Niall Cassidy couldn’t but make you proud.

6. We have our own song. Like in big Fermanagh GAA moments before this: There’s now a theme song. The reworking of ‘Sweet Home Alabama’ has already racked up a few thousand hits. Try get it out of your head.

7. The bunting is up. Across the county, there’s no doubt that we’re excited. From Teddy bears on lamp posts to bunting on roundabouts: Communities here have no shame in turning parts of the county green in support of their team.
