Drumclay Nursing Home’s – and probably Fermanagh’s – oldest resident, Mary Jane Cathcart has celebrated her 104th birthday – and there aren’t many in Fermanagh to top that!

On Tuesday, her son, Tommy told the Herald ‘he was after seeing her and she’s in right good form’.

“She drank a glass of milk and was about to start her dinner before I left.

I was in on Sunday and I stayed a long time with her and she was able to tell me her birthday was on the 23rd.

‘What age will you be then’, I asked her and she said, “I will be 104’”.

Asked if he had noticed any change in his mother over the past 12 months, Tommy said she would have slowed down since her 100th birthday.

“We took her out to the Killyhevlin and she was there with all her children and grandchildren, and we had a great day, but she wouldn’t be able to do that now.

“So, on Friday, the family are having a wee party and, thankfully, she is as well as she would have been for a good wee while.

She’ll be getting her hair done on Thursday.

It’s normally Tuesday, but they want her looking her best for Friday.”

Mrs Cathcart is a native of Meenagleeragh, Donagh, Garrison.
