SINCE the first show back in September of last year, the Bush comedy club has gone ‘from strength to strength’.
That’s the thoughts of comedian Terry Keyes, who MCs the monthly event at the Enniskillen bar.
The Omagh-born comedian is responsible for setting up the award-winning Daly’s Comedy Club in Omagh, and was full of praise for what he described as a growing comedy crowd in Fermanagh.
Terry, from Omagh run the award-winning Daly’s Comedy Club in his hometown.
“It’s going from strength to strength, it’s still early days like a comedy club can take two years to find its find its feet. Sometimes it can be difficult if a small town doesn’t have a comedy history or heritage – it can be difficult for crowds to get it.
“But we’ve been very surprised and impressed with the support we’ve had with the locals – even having regulars now, and knowing people by name now.”
This weekend the comedy club welcomes four acts along with host Terry.
This includes Gerry McBride, Ryan Cullen, Ciaran Bartlett, and Andy McGrenaghan.
Running through the list of acts for Friday night, Terry explained:
“I’m the guy taking the money at the door and showing them to their seats. So by the time I’ve taken to the stage they all know me. With me it’s self-depricating and ultimately very funny if I can be so arrogant to say that,” he laughed.
“Andy McGrenaghan is a Donegal man – he tells all these great yarns. He would suit that older audience, maybe the Mrs Browns fans.
“Gerry McBride is unbelievable. I’ve worked with Gerry loads of times and he makes me laugh everytime. He’s a Crossmaglen man, now living in the city of Dublin. He writes for ‘Waterford Whispers’ and he is absolutely hilarious.
“We’re all about bringing new acts on. Ryan Cullen – he’s a Dublin comedian who is starting out – and Ciaran Bartlett is a bit of political activist. He’s a big lad, he’s very self-depricating, he’s razor sharp.”
Doors open at 8pm in the Bush Bar tomorrow night (Friday), with the show starting at 8.30pm. Admission is £7.
“I really enjoy it – we took a break in December but we’re really chpmping at the bit to get back at it,” Terry concluded.
