Beauty Blog: Celeb fitness: A quick-fix or a long term solution?

THE APPEAL of celebrity fitness videos is that they are cheap, can be done from the comfort of our own living rooms and makes us think that we can easily achieve their figures because at one stage they lived a life not too dissimilar from ours.

The videos are easily followed in a step-by-step guide, require little equipment and fits into our busy lifestyles so they are perfect for those who only have a spare 30 minutes in their day and are not able to make trips to the gym.

With the celebrity’s perfectly toned abs on display and the accompanying photo of them four stones heavier appearing in the background, it’s hard not to fall for their promises.

They claim that buyers could lose five pounds a week with a three minute workout at a cost of just £12 for the DVD, so who wouldn’t want to invest in this.

But, these videos have attracted criticism from fitness industry experts who say that they are only short term solutions and the ‘quick fixes’  won’t last.

The trendy thing celebrities appear to be doing is to pile on the pounds, get an unflattering picture running along the beach in a bikini and then six months later release a DVD with their size 8 figure flaunting on the front cover. It’s almost predictable who will be the next in line to do this.
But, it’s a lucrative business, particularly at this time of year.

The most recent person to do this reality star Charlotte Crosby who dropped from a size 16 to a healthy looking size 8 and she looks really well.

The 24-year-old has clearly worked hard to achieve this and has since released her DVD, 3 Min Belly Blitz.

It has proved to a be a hit among many women and is fast becoming one of the more popular celebrity fitness DVDs. She regularly posts pictures of her progress and toned abs on her social media sites to her millions of followers.

The ‘3 minute’ tag line is quite misleading as you start with a three minute routine and then build on this until you complete 12 different routines as you improve. As well as this there is a ten minute killer ab circuit, a fat-burning routine and a healthy eating guide.

She also has the added benefit of trainer Richard Callendar, who is there throughout the week ensuring she does the workouts and giving her the motivation to see it through.

Unfortunately we don’t have that on our side but what we do have is the self-motivation and the training to see it through that I have spoken of before.

I would see these DVDs as a good stepping stone into fitness but I would not allow myself to rely on them as exercise is also about getting out doors.

f body confidence is an issue then perhaps this is the solution for you. But make it a temporary one until you see results and gain confidence then take it outside and to the next level.
