Leading French winery on show at Enniskillen Hotel

Enniskillen Hotel Wine Tasting

GOOD VINTAGE.. Charles Robb (Robb Brothers Wine Merchants), Chris Myers (Chateau Palmer) and Dale Ebbit (Enniskillen Hotel) enjoy sampling some fine wines at the recent wine event held in the Enniskillen Hotel

The Enniskillen Hotel last week was the venue for a Winemakers Dinner featuring the world renowned Chateau Palmer winery.

In the intimate surroundings of Wildes Restaurant 30 people were treated to an evening of quality wine and superb food.

The Chateau Palmer winery is based in the Bordeaux region of France and is one-of the most well respected and well-known in the region. The wine produced here, was classified as one of fourteen Troisièmes Crus (Third Growths) in the historic Bordeaux Wine Official Classification of 1855.

On the night the winery’s European ambassador Chris Myers spoke about each of the six wines  on offer, which were served along with a four-course dinner. The highlights on the night included the 2011 Vin Blance de Palmer, not available anywhere else in Ireland and the Chateau Palmer 1985, an extremely rare and sought after wine, which was paired with a loin of venison, pumpkin gnocchi, spinach and candied hazelnut.

General Manager at the hotel Dale Ebbitt, who has hosted a number of Winemakers Dinners previously, was delighted with how Tuesday evening’s event went.

“It was a massive success. I have just recently received an email from Chris saying how delighted he was and inviting us over to Chateau Palmer, which I was obviously pleased with.

It was a really successful night, everybody let their hair down, the food was fantastic, the wines were superb, a real coup for us and hopefully there will be more in the future.”

Asked for his own personal highlight of the night Dale replied: “I will have to be the old cliché and say the 1985. Oh my goodness. We got to drink about 135ml of it and I wish I had more. It was fantastic and a real centre piece of the night and I think it went superbly with the venison.”
