Judges commended Darren on his personal touch which has gained the respect of his staff, encouraging them to successfully introduce new ideas and innovations, as well as offering training to staff on a variety of roles to give them an all-round understanding of the business.

Darren has also introduced opportunities in-store to help boost trade as well as engaging with his customers through social media and supporting local community events and charity work.

The Retail Industry Awards have become firmly established as the ‘Oscars’ of the grocery industry, rewarding the smallest independent retailers alongside the largest supermarket groups.

Darren, who attended the awards ceremony in London said: “I’m overwhelmed to receive this award but it is testament to the hard work and effort that everyone at Swift’s Lisnaskea has put in over the past year.

“It has been an absolute honour to collect this award and is brilliant, not only for myself but for all of the staff. I would like to thank our regional manager Geoff Johnston for all of his hard work and support and I feel this is a brilliant springboard onto greater opportunities for SuperValu Lisnaskea,” he added.

SuperValu Senior Regional Manager of Musgrave Retail Partners, Geoff Johnston, said: “It is a fantastic achievement for Darren to be recognised at these prestigious awards.

“As a manager of an independently owned store working with Musgrave he has demonstrated excellent leadership qualities in motivating staff and driving the store forward.”
