Business as usual despite brothel bust

Alleged Brothel, Enniskillen

The area of Cornagrade, Enniskillen where the brothel was alleged to have been in operation

SO-CALLED ESCORTS continue to ply their trade in Enniskillen despite the raid of a brothel by police on a Cornagrade Road apartment block a week ago.

The Fermanagh Herald can reveal that despite the arrest of a woman on ‘suspicion of brothel keeping’ after a raid by police last week, ‘escorts’ are still offering their services here.

A police spokesman said: “A 35-year-woman was arrested on suspicion of brothel keeping.”
He added that the woman is due to appear in court on November 5. A post on the official PSNI Fermanagh Twitter account also said on Thursday morning: ‘Brothel raided by police in Enniskillen in the Cornagrade area last night’.

The raid by police is thought to have taken place at around 9pm at an apartment block on the Cornagrade Road. Two escorts confirmed to the Fermanagh Herald in the last 24 hours that they were available to meet at Cornagrade, ‘near’ the old Erne Hospital.

The escorts are thought to be accessible through the escort-ireland website. The site states: “All the escorts listed on Escort Ireland charge for their time and companionship only. Anything else that may occur is a matter of coincidence and choice between consenting adults.”

Police inspector Roy Robinson described it as ‘positive’ that operations like this have been identified by police.

He said that he believes there are ‘certainly a number’ of similar operations in the county.

“I think any sort of neighbours in the area would be pleased with the police action and response.

“These are girls who don’t want to be in the trade, they come here under false pretences probably and people are holding on to their passports and these people are slaves to those who are controlling them.”

He added: “If anybody knows who these people are we would being saying you can ring the Crimestoppers and they will pass the information to the PSNI. Or they can ring 101. If you know what’s going on in your area we’re more than happy to investigate.”
